This is an outstanding find of a beautifully deeply carved, working, wood cuckooclock that was created in the Black Forest of Titisee-Neustadt \"Germany\" about 25 years ago by \"David Hones,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. This clock was carved from cured and aged Lindenwood that has been the choice of Black Forest carvers since 1870. The clock is just breathtaking and shows no signs of having been used. The case is adorned with eleven carvedoak leaves and another is found on the wooden pendulum. The carvings are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy; very nice! There is a magnificent, large carved wooden deer head completewith antlers atop the clock. I don\'t think the antlers are made of wood but they surelook real. The wooden dial has a blackbackdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancymatching wooden hands to point out the time. There is a wooden door affixed to the right side of the case that can be removed to allowaccess to the movement in case any adjustments may be necessary. Theclock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes toallow access to the mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case produced by \"Regula.\" A weight drivenmovement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to windthe clock and cuckoo activity. Regula makes the best movements and David uses them in all of his high quality clocks. The bellow tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour,a colorful wooden bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nicesounding chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour andcorrectly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to thesafe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! There is an intact Black Forest Clock Association label on the left side of the clock and a metal lever that allows you to enable or disable the cuckoo and chiming activities as you wish. The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoosas it should but we don\'t know the service history. I did find a service date on the inner rear door: 3-11-13. Nonetheless, it is an old clock and some adjustments or service may benecessary once the clock makes the journey to its new home. We always recommend toour clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least onceevery three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one andkeep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with two setsof attached golden metal chains, a woodenoak leaf pendulum, and two rather heavypinecone shaped metal weights. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well andcan\'t find anydamage or missing parts and very little if any signs of use. It is an impressiveold clock and the ideal size too measuring about 13\" high(not counting the weights or pendulum), about 8\" at its deepest point, and about 8\" or so across the top. This clock is just stunning and a great nostalgic look back at the greatness ofBlack Forest workmanship. It iscertainto turn a few heads when displayed in your home, office, orwherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, beautifully carved, Black Forestcuckoo clock with a real history behind it. offer with confidence; I know you\'ll love this clock!
