A majestic 1830’s gold satinbrocade dress that has recently been de-accessioned from the Mayflower Museumin Rhode Island. The dress wasoriginally worn by Maria Williams Simmons Harrington. Her name is hand written on the inside of the bodice, B. 1789 D. 1889. The fabric has a large floral and leaf pattern. The neckline has a pleated collar and ispiped. The sleeves are designed in theGigot style with stitched down pleating at the top and on the sleeve cuff. The armscyes, inner seam on the sleeves andthe cuffs are piped. The waist is also piped. The dress is lined with cotton and has aback hook and eye closure. It is ingood condition. There is some fabricloss on the attached collar near the shoulders, (see photo) and small areas oflight underarm discoloration. Antiqueclothing is for display/collecting and should not be worn.
