Up for sale this week is a Truly Amazing Quality estate collection of choice Japanese ceramics and works of art. The items listed are straight from a prominent Toronto estate collection. I am told the pieces were purchased 20-30 years ago at high-end galleries including Gump’s in San Francisco and other New York galleries. Some very substantial amounts were paid for many of the pieces listed so I believe there are some real treasures here.
It is thought that Japanese art is presently one of the best investments one could make today with pricesdown 60-80% off their highs of 20-30 years ago. The quality of Japanese art is absolutely amazing and something that cannot be mass produced or easily copied. So such investments are not only a smart choice but a safe one as well. Items of this quality always stand the test of time and will surely come back into favor. I believe once this happens you could stand to make a hefty profit on your Japanese art investments, even 5-10 times profit would not be out of the way. And on top of all such fine and beautiful examples are much nicer to look at, and to decorate your house with than a piece of investment paper from the bank in the meantime!

Up for sale is a Truly Magnificent Japanese Lacquered Box. The Box is by far one, if not the finest and most intricately detailed example of Japanese lacquer work I have seen. The Box has an incredible and very interesting design with spider web landscape to the top and all around the sides. As you can see the Box is signed in two places on the front cover with Japanese characters. I believe the Box would date from the later Edo to earlier Meiji period, over 100 years old. Another amazing feature of the box in the interior lid, which has an incredible painted gold forest scene with silver birds. I have never seen another piece like this it is truly breathtaking to say the least. The lid and base rims are also mounted in solid sterling silver. As you can see the lid does have a tight age line crack from the wood shrinking and some small losses and chips to the corners, which I believe could be restored if desired. I am sure seeing how fragile the box is and for its age most examples like this would have some condition issues, and overall as you can see the box is in substantially good original condition with no other damage, or restoration. At least some amateur restorer has not ruined the box by trying to work on it, and the box is a true untouched example. The Box is also a large size and easily fits cigars, letters, or I am sure could be used for a large variety of items. The Box measures 8 3/8 inches long, by 6 7/8 inches wide, and sits 3 5/8 inches tall. I believe it could be some time before you see another incredible piece like this up for sale. The Box would make an amazing addition to any collection, and is also a fine investment grade piece.
