Near Mint 1905 Victor I Phonograph w/Shipping Box, Beveled Turntable * Beautiful
Price: US $2125.00
I\'m closing out July with one of the best line-ups of mechanical, technological and musical antiques I\'ve had the pleasure of offering in a single week in the 20 years I\'ve been on . Make sure to check out all of my sales after you look at this one. Even if you\'re only a casual collector, I suspect there will be something of interest to you.Here\'s a pristine 1905 Victor I phonograph with an early beveled Victor turntable, an early \"special\" Victor round brake, an early and excellent Victor M horn, and an exceedingly rare Victor shipping crate (which is still in remarkably good shape given its age and utility). As you can see in the photographs, the condition of the phonograph is excellent to near mint throughout. Beautiful original cabinet finish; outstanding oak cabinet, with tight joints and no damage; excellent original nickel-plating (patina consistent with age and authenticity, but no corrosion or damage); excellent original horn elbow; original paper license on the underside of the cabinet; excellent original crank; excellent original enamel and decorations on the back bracket, etc.The phonograph is a great player, and the governor works as it should. Machine runs with no thumping from the motor, no turntable wobble, and when fully wound, it will play a record through in its entirety. The Victor Exhibition reproducer is in excellent condition too, with undamaged mica, a straight needle bar, and gaskets that are still intact. The shipping crate has marks and wear consistent with its age, but no damage and no wood issues. Nipper is emblazoned on both sides, and the crate -- when closed -- is sturdy enough to support the weight of the phonograph, making it an ideal pedestal for displaying the phonograph. I\'ll include with the phonograph an early Victor record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within a few minutes after unpacking it.I\'ve been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you\'ll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it\'s been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn\'t know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you\'ll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won\'t be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your \"bargain\" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you\'ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.That\'s about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly. Overseas buyers, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote and for my confirmation that I can ship it to you. sale participants with no prior response history, or with hidden response, should contact me before placing a offer.
