Make sure to check out all of my sales after you look at this one. I\'m listing an eclectic assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone.Here\'s a near mint 1902 Victor E disc phonograph, the successor to the Eldridge Johnson Type C phonograph of 1901 and one of the first phonographs manufactured by the Victor Talking Machine Co. to feature the striking design hallmarks that would become inextricably associated with the company\'s line of outside horn table top phonographs -- specifically a tiered base, a tiered top and Roman-esque corner columns. The E was introduced in 1902 as a front-mount machine, and the original paper label on the underside of the cabinet dates this machine to March of that year -- a very early Victor machine, even for a front mount. In 1904, Victor introduced a rear-mount tapering arm, which could be substituted for the original support arm by a Victor dealer, or at the factory, for an upgrade charge of $5.00. As you can see in the pictures, the phonograph is pristine, with a cabinet that\'s basically mint, and an original finish that exhibits virtually no wear and has no chips, no dents, no dings, no missing chunks of wood, no problems. Just furniture quality oak that\'s clearly been pampered over the course of its lifetime. The back-bracket is likewise close to mint, with beautiful original decorations and original enamel that\'s still deep black and glossy. Even the cabinet feet are original; they\'re all complete and undamaged. The nickel-plated fittings gleam, the ID plate is clean and legible, the brake is working properly, the horn elbow is perfect, with no dings or dents, the motor and governor are working properly, the original Victor Exhibition reproducer is working properly (and sounds fantastic). The machine\'s only obvious concession to the ravages of time is a relatively minor and forgivable one -- some wear and tear to the original turntable felt.Like the phonograph, the horn and horn elbow are original and pristine. There are a couple of thin streaks of paint loss on the outside surface of the horn, but the paint is otherwise exquisite, and the blemishes are insignificant relative to the overall condition of the horn, which as you can see is exceptional. The horn itself is still perfectly formed. No dings, no dents, no rust. Just a beautiful original pre-dog Victor horn, with its patent information stamped just above the seam.In every respect, this is the very definition of a museum quality Victor phonograph, and it will arrive at its destination ready to play an enjoy. I\'ll include with the phonograph an early, acoustically-recorded Victor record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together. I\'ve been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you\'ll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it\'s been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn\'t know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you\'ll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won\'t be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your \"bargain\" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you\'ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.That\'s about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly.
