When rare specimens can\'t be found, experienced bear trap collectors were consulted to contribute their knowledge regarding the current value of such traps. As with any commodity, the value of a trap is governed by many variables. The most critical factors are scarcity, demand and condition.

Bear in mind that the prices contained in this book or any of VANCES price guides are the average retail prices, the price that the collector can expect to be payed for if lost in a fire or stolen from your home. Variations are found in many bear traps as Forged parts. These are replaced with machine made parts and cast parts, jaw posts, swivels, chains, and etc. These in-between models sell often at the value of the nearest model.
