Please note; this is a ten day sale......Arare original manuscript promissory note dated November 1, 1745, between Abner Armstrong of Norwich, Connecticut, and Robert Benjamin, also of Norwich, in the County of New London, for four Pounds, three Shillings and Eight \"Penes\" payable in \"old Tenor\" [bills of credit]. Signed by Armstrong, but never witnessed. Size 3 1/4\" x 6 1/4\", folds, handmade rag paper, irregular edges, very good condition with normal aging.... These promissory notes were used in Colonial America for payment of all debts, and would be accepted everywhere because currency and hard money were not readily available in the colonies. A man who did not pay his debts was considered a criminal. The bills of \"old tenor\" were a form of paper money issued by the Colony that could easily be inflated by printing, but held more value than bills of \"new tenor\"....Guaranteed original.......An historic Colonial American financial document....$3.00 shipping............
