Description: An attractive and potentially unique, Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, approximate 1-Gallon capacity, Northeastern US origin, ca.1865. If pressed, I would attribute to Hudson Valley, New York State, but could be convinced otherwise. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder and tooled rounded rim. Integrated inner ledge for a lid. Front features a bold Brushed and Slip-Trailed Folky Bird perched on a stylized Tulip Floral in bold, blue Cobalt. Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.

Condition: There is a faint hairline down from the shoulder (left side) and extending across the base, as shown; otherwise in Very Good, as-made condition with strong color.
