O-Gauge LIONEL - #2582-4-0 Steam Engine, #257 Tender & 3 OrangePassenger Cars

O-Gague -Lionel Pre-War#258 2-4-0 Steam engine, Tender and 3 orange passenger cars. This engine was made in 1930-1935 and the tender is #257, a 4 wheeled version. This engine and tender were manufactured in 1930 to 1935 shortly after Lionel acquired sole ownership of Ives Manufacturing Company. The 258 is identical to the Lionel 257 engine except the 258 has a manual reverse lever. The 258 engine is interesting as it has brass and copper trim with orange-red stripes painted on. This example has the original paint as it is somewhat pitted and scratches in several places, the 258 Lionel Lines plate under the right side of the cab is darker.
This engine was tested on an oval track and after some effort did run in both directions. I will let you know it did hesitate and because of the manual reverse lever inside the cab, you must work it carefully, but again, it does run! As it is at least 75+yrs old the motor I would suggest the engine be cleaned and lubrication applied with care. The movement control could just be a connector issue as the headlight also came on & off and flickered. The tender may have been repainted as it is in excellent condition for its age. There is some patina on the brass parts but otherwise looks great. The Lionel Logo on the reverse end of the tender looks like it could have been replaced.
The 3 passenger cars are 2 # 603 Pullman cars in 2 tone Orange and #604 Observation car also in 2 tone Orange. The roof is classified as Terra-cotta in color. These cars are in good to very good condition as they were made, I believe also from 1931-1936. One of the Pullman cars has 2 wheels that could be replaced as they have some rust on the trucks but only on one side. Couplers are the early Lionel version. The bases on all of the passenger cars are in very good condition. They do not appear to have been restored.
As the engine only runs with a little help the set is being sold As-Is.
This will be a greataddition to your Pre-War model train collectionand layout. FREE SHIPPING to the U.S.
