Here we have the highly sought after 1936 Silvertone model 4565. Sold by Sears from 1936 - 1937 this beauty features an absolutely gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, unique trapezoid design, 6\" sunburst gold dial, bright green magic tuning eye and superb performance from the powerful 8 tube chassis.

Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with an eye catching swirled burl on the front. Its unique trapezoid design reminds you of the quality craftsmanship so evident from the Art Deco era. The large grill is positioned on each side of the dial which is something you rarely see on radios from this time period. A tiger striped inlay runs across the bottom front of the cabinet complimented by grooved stripes on the sides. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the gold dialilluminates along with a bright green magic tuning eye looking down from above. What a spectacular sight! Jet black trim and the original wood back finish the cabinet off with the utmost elegance and style. You\'ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

Dial: Silvertone\'s famous gold sunburst dial is one of the finest dials any radio has to offer. The metal dial features a gold background with black numbers and letters. The center art work depicts a sun rising over the ocean with stars and the Silvertone logo. Two dial lamps illuminate the dial and a new, bright green magic tuning eye is positioned at the top. The tuning eye is very sensitive and opens & closesindicating signal strength. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible andshow very little signs of wear. Thedial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. All five knobs are in perfectshape and control the following: on/off & volume, high low sharp tone, tuning, band switch (between AM broadcast, shortwave and the now defunct police& aviation bands), and variable tone control.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproductionfeaturingaclassic gold color witha herringbone design. This grillcloth can also be purchased separately on our other sales.

Chassis: All tubes in thepowerful8 tube (including eye tube)chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance. With the included copper line antenna I\'m able to pick up manystations, near and far, across the AM broadcast band with deep rich tone and plenty of volume. I am also able to pick up several shortwave stations especially at night.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
