Perhaps one of the classiestdesigned table radios Truetone produced; The 1937 Model D-724 ‘Master’. Sold byWestern Auto Stores, this very desirable set features a stunning AmericanWalnut cabinet, spectacular multi colored network dial, bright green magictuning eye, powerful 8 tube chassis, and outstanding performance on the AMbroadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous.Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with an attractive swirled grain front. The protrudingpillared sides let you know why this model is nicknamed ‘The Master’. It all comes togethermagnificently with the large and bright network dial coupled with the brightgreen magic tuning eye. What a sight to behold. The shiny brass escutcheons arean elegant touch. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows foroptimal sound from the large Rola speaker. This beauty is sure to be the maintopic of conversation no matter which room in the home or office you choose todisplay it in.

Dial &Knobs:Just look at that large, bright network dial!Coupled with a new emerald green tuning eye it is quite the sight to behold. The dial itself features an array of colors from red and green to blue and gold. It displays numerous stationfrequencies, country & city names (for shortwave reference), and station call letterscorresponding to which network they were affiliated with. Thus the network dialname. All station letters and numbers are legible and show very little signs ofwear. Allfour knobs are perfect and work as follows: tone, tuning, on/off & volume, and band switch.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproductionfeaturingablack diamond pattern with golddots. Thisgrill cloth can also be purchased separately on our other sales. Thestation call letter tabs can also be purchased separately on our other sales.

Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 8 tube (including eye)chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, andresistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring wasreplaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-alignedfor optimal performance. The radio performs very well on the AM broadcast andshortwave bands. With the included copper line antenna I am able to pick upmany stations, near and far, with great tone and room filling volume.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. During the restoration process on this radio a thin veneer strip repair was made to the left side edge of the cabinet. It has been secured, filled and blended. Nothing that detracts from the beauty of the set. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
