Here we have the highly sought after 1939 Zenith Racetrack model 5-S-327 Long Distance tombstone radio featuring a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, spectacular \'racetrack dial\', automatic pushbutton tuning and exceptional performance on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet: The two tone American Walnut cabinet is quite a stunner! Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. The tombstone design withrounded sides and a step up top remindsyou of why Zenith was second to none when it came to craftsmanship. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Grooved pinstripe inlays and a dowel studded base finish the cabinet off with class and style. You\'ll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room of your home or office.

Dial &Knobs:This set features Zenith\'s highly desirable racetrack dial. The large oval design resembles the shape of a racetrack, thus the nickname. It illuminates nice and bright with two dial lamps. It boasts a classic gold color with the broadcast and shortwave scales represented in a unique font that provides an elegant touch. All letters and numbers are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks or cracks. Thesleek \'Z\' pointer moves nice and smooth around the entire dial.A shiny brass escutcheon surrounds the dial and houses5 fully functional pushbuttons for automatic tuning. The fourivory \'Z\' knobs control on/off, tone, tuning and band switch. A small chip in the tuning knobbase has been resin filled and blended. Although the automatic tuning is fully functional, it is recommended you use the manual tuning knobdue to the age and delicacy of the mechanism. If you do choose to use theauto feature the pushbuttons will need to be preset to your local stations and should be done by a professional.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuringan antiquegold color withablack wave / swirldesign. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately on our other sales

Chassis: All tubes in the5tube chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimalperformance.Using theincluded copper lineantenna the radio provides outstanding performance. I\'m able to pick up many stations, near and far,on both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands with deep rich tone and room filling volume.

The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready toproudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
