Here we have an absolutelystunning 1937 Zenith model 6-S-128 tombstone table radio. This beauty was oneof their top of the line models for that year and boasted the largest blackdial of any of their table models and retailed for a whopping $59.95! Itfeatures a beautiful two tone walnut cabinet, amazing lighted black dial, lightning station finder with split second re-locater, and outstanding performanceon both the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet:Thetwo toned Walnut cabinet is quite breathtaking. Solidand well built, as can be expected from superior Zenith craftsmanship. Thefront and top feature an American walnut with dark walnut sides. A large ArtDeco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the largespeaker. It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the monstrousblack dial comes to life with a warm glow. You’ll be the envy of all with thismasterpiece proudly displayed in any room in the home or office you choose to display itin.

Dial/Knobs::If Zenith black dials are your thing….it doesn’tget any better or bigger than this. Powered by two dial lamps, it lights niceand bright and features a black background with ivory numbers and letters. Thereare smaller dials in each corner for voice, music, and high fidelity tonecontrol, band switch, volume control, and selectivity control. Many foreigncountry and city names outline the dial for shortwave reference. All numbersand letters are legible and show very little signs of wear. This set features, what was advertised as, a lightning station finder and split second re-locator.It is a very cool feature as the tuning knob is weighted and spins with ease. The veneer tuning and sleek red split second re-locator allows for pinpointaccuracy. All five wood knobs are in perfect shape and control the following:tone control, selectivity control, on/off & volume, tuning, and bandswitch.

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring awhiskey gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately onour other sales.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs exceptionally well on the AM broadcast and short wave bands. I\'m able to pick up stations near and far, upand down the dial, with sensitive reception, deep richtone, and plenty of volume.

The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo avigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of thewood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this byremoving all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinetwith fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishesare filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any fillerapplied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beautyof the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand.We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied inthe same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. Weuse a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLPturbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer isvery thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep intothe grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coatalong with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours ofwork are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is abeautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radiosare a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as wellas listen to, in any room of the home or office.
