This sale is for an old French violin, as pictured.
Description: This violin was made in a well-known Derazey workshop in Mirecourt, France. Itis a full-size violinmeasuring about 23 1/4 inches long overall, 14 1/8 inches body length and 8 1/4 inches wide at the widest point. It is labeled internally "De la Fabrique de, DERAZEY, A MIRECOURT" (From the Derazey workshop in Mirecourt). The top is spruce. the back, sides and neck are maple and the fingerboard is ebony. There is no case or bow.
Condition: This violin is in basically sound condition, but it needs minor repairs and set up to make it playable.
There are two cracks in the top, one running along the treble side of the fingerboard descending from the edge near the neck to the upper eye of thetreble F hole and the other descending from the lower eye of thetreble F hole to the edge. Both of these cracks have been tightly glued in good alignment, so they do not need attention at this time.
Other than these two top cracks, the violin is in excellent condition. There is minor scratching in the varnish, most noticeably fine tuner wear. The edges have very little wear. There is a section of worn wood less than an inch long at the top edge, upper bass bout. The varnish has not been worn trough anywhere else on the top or back edges.
The fingerboard needs to be resurfaced because it has deep string grooves worn in it. There are some open seams that need to be reglued. The soundpost is standing up in position. The violin also needs pegs, bridge, strings, tailpiece, chinrest, etc. Once these things are attended to, this shouldbe an excellent playing and sounding violin.
