Rare Farnell \'Wilfred Rabbit\' four ways jointed
with blue mohair in his joints. Circa 1920\'s-30\'s.
This fantastic, large size mohair rabbit was manufactured by Farnell during the 1920\'s. He is known as \'Wilfred\'
and was a character in the cartoon strip \'Pip, Squeak and Wilfred\' which featured in the Daily Mirror from 1919 until the 1930\'s.
I am also listing a large size pip dog who can be seen in the last photo but this sale is for \'Wilfred\' rabbit only.
Wilfred is rare version of these Farnell rabbits in that he has jointed legs as well as arms so he can be nicely posed and he has
huge floppy ears that add an extra 10\" to his height from head to toe of 18\". He is also unusual in that he was originally \'blue\'
which can still be seen in his joints although he has faded to an all over golden straw colour now. His joints are quite loose, so
he has a bit of difficulty sitting up on his own and prefers to have a friend to lean against or a comfy chair to sit in.Wilfred has had some minor repairs to the front of his left ankle and to the base of his tail and his eyes are vintage replacements
which suit him very well. He also has a very small hole where his none working squeaker has rubbed against the backing fabric
and a small stain on his left ear. Other than this, he is in very good orginal condition with an 80-85% coverage of mohair with just
slight thinning and some bare patches here and there. His mohair has flattened but he could be easily fluffed up with a light
surface clean if you wanted. Wilfred is a fantastic character toy with lots of charm and I particularly love his large floppy ears.
He would make a fantastic addition to any collection or paired off with the large Pip dog I also have for sale and if you
also have a large Squeak penguin to make up the trio, then so much the better.
