This is an Old OriginalModel 1913 Patton Cavalry saber marked “S A” (Springfield Armory) with theFlaming Ordinance Bomb logo in between and “1914” underneath. The other side ofthe blade is marked “US” with the number “24751” underneath.
The sword isabout 42 1/2” long
The blade alone is 35 ¼” long.
The blade is in prettygood condition, with no nicks and the tip is complete. The blade is gray, withsome dark scaling throughout (please see pictures) possibly from old surfacecorrosion, but stabilized now. I think it could be cleaned off?
The Guard is completeand in good condition, with some old surface rust(Please see pictures).
The back strapand grips are in good shape and very tight, the knurled finish is sharp and notworn. (Please see pictures).

US Army Model 1913 Cavalry \"Patton\"Saber -
LieutenantPatton was made the Army\'s youngest-ever \"Master of the Sword\" at theMounted Service School at Fort Riley, Kansas. While Master of the Sword, Pattonbecame an instructor at Fort Riley and improved and modernized the Army\'scavalry saber fencing techniques and earlier in the year assisted in the designof the Model 1913 Cavalry Saber. Patton\'s 1914 manual \"SaberExercise\" outlined a system of training aimed at developing proficiency inboth the mounted and the on foot use of the saber. Patton suggested therevision from a curved sword and edge and cutting technique to a thrustingstyle of attack, following his extensive training in France. Patton\'s thoughtdevelopment was expressed in his 1913 report \"The Form and Use of theSaber”.
