~ Alexis ~ Every year about this time, I make a beautiful princess adorned in my coveted collection of various vintage and newer rhinestones. I named this particular Winter Princess, Alexis, after my niece whose favorite movie is “Frozen”. She is a very large 24” classic styled bear made with a thick luxurious winter white Schulte mohair. Alexis has amazing gray eyes with striations in the iris. I started with handblown glass taxidermy eyes, ground the back side with a moto-tool to remove the existing enamel, then repaint the backing which makes her eyes very realistic and luminous. I surrounded these eyes with a build-up of cording, the final layer giving her a lovely lidded feminine expression of gentleness and sincerity. Her eyelids have been painted with frosty pale grayish blues. I fashioned Alexis an elaborate collar from vintage and newer rhinestones and pearls combined in a symmetrical design and held together onto a double felted backing. This ensemble was designed to match her tiara which is pinned onto her head with corsage pins. I used Apoxie resin clay from behind in order to hold the various disparate pieces of her tiara together in a seamless look. Alexis has hardboard/locknut jointing and is stuffed with polyfil and has bb’s/pennies inside for added weight. Her matching 100% wool felt paw pads have been delicately stippled with the same bluish grays that are found in her composition and I did the same coloring on her short trimmed muzzle, chin, eye area and inner ears.
