Up forsale is an original American WorldWar I poster issued by The United States Food Administration in 1917. AsWorld War I grew long the American citizens were called upon to improve theirfood consumption habits by growing home gardens, saving and swapping outingredients and by not wasting good food!!!Here we have an image of a businessman whom, having enjoyed a nicerestaurant meal lingers at the dining table with a cigar. The waiter clearing the plates from the tableis clearly dismayed by the waste of food left uneaten on the dinnerplates. The artist is William CrawfordYoung whom I can’t find much information on other than he appeared to have asolid post war career as a cartoonist.
Atone hundred years of age the document is in good condition. The fold marks areoriginal to when it was stored away for safekeeping. There is a resulting pinsize hole where the creases met. Asexpected with paper this old there is minor edge wear, lightly bent corners andthe beginning of a seam split. For its’ great age the condition is impressive.Still, many pictures are included for youto scrutinize and make your own judgement. The poster measures width byheight as 21” x 29”/53 x 74 cm. It is No.6 in the series and printed by TheW.F. Powers Co., Litho: N.Y.
