ORIGINAL WWII US ARMY OFFICER\'S M38 FIELD JACKET, PRIVATE PURCHASE, \"BANCROFT\"
Price: US $338.00
This is an original U.S. Army officer\'s WWII M1938 \"Parsons\" field jacket (not an M-1941 or M41 jacket, it is the much rarer M-1938), in excellent, lightly used condition.  The jacket is complete with all tabs, buttons, zipper, etc., fully functional. The jacket is a private purchase model of M38 manufactured by \"Bancroft\" (maker of numerous items of WWII clothing, including officer\'s wool dress hats).  A satin label inside the neck of the jacket is faded, but if you hold it in the right light you can still read the words: \"Bancroft Officer\'s Regulation Field Jacket.\"  ******* The jacket is made of a light OD cotton, with a brownish-green wool lining.  The pockets of the jacket have flaps that close with a button (typical M38 Parsons style jacket construction), but the jacket also has epaulets for an officer\'s insignia (like the M1941 field jacket).  The jacket is identical in all other respects to the government-contracted M38 jackets, it has all buttons, tabs, etc.  The zipper is by \"Talon,\" it is white steel in the typical WWII configuration (see close-up of zipper in photos below).  The jacket is sewn with khaki cotton thread. \"******* This jacket came from the estate of a US Army officer who served in WWII and I absolutely guarantee it is a 100% original 1941-1945 WWII item.  In the last photo below, you can see a US Army officer of the 8th Infantry Division (probably Major General Donald A. Stroh, accepting the surrender of German Major General Herman B. Ramcke at Brest) wearing exactly this type of jacket. The General\'s jacket is the M38 type with pocket flaps, but has epaulettes to accommodate the officer\'s rank insignia. ****** The jacket is complete, as noted has all buttons, tabs, pocket flaps, zipper, waist tabs, original pocket linings, etc. There are no rips or holes, the jacket is mostly clean with some very light soiling as you might expect from being issued and used in WWII. The wool lining is intact, no rips, holes, or repairs, just some light wear.  Zipper is mounted on khaki cotton cloth. Inside pockets are lined with light gray flannel cotton. The right pocket at one time had a white cotton label inside, looks like the remnants of a size tag. The white steel zipper functions perfectly. ***** I can see no insignia, names, or other marks on the jacket, it is very clean. I do not have the name of the officer who owned it, I know only that he was in the Medical Corps and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the end of the war.  ********** The jacket probably was originaly a size 36 or 38 Regular. I do not guarantee this item for fit, it is sold as an authentic WWII collectible only. The measurements are:  Across back, from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 17.5 inches. Length of sleeve from seam at shoulder to end of cuff, 23.5 inches. Again, I am selling this for its historical  value, not as an item to wear today. I cannot accept a return for lack of fit. If you would like an M38 jacket to wear, please purchase one of the many excellent reproductions out there. This is an original WWII item used by a US Army officer, I would not want to see it worn out and used up, it deserves to be appreciated for its historical value. ************** The M38 Parsons jacket was the precursor to the M1941 jacket. Differences with the M41 are that the M38 has patches on the pockets that close with a button, and (as originally issued according to US Army Quartermaster specifications) the M38 has no shoulder epaulets. The M38 usually has a thinner wool lining. This one appears to me to be a typical M38, with perhaps a thinner cloth shell than the early (1940-1941) issued models that I have seen. **********  This is just a very nice, lightly used M38, used by an Army officer. It shows no fraying whatsoever at cuffs or neck. no fraying at hem. No holes, no rips, lining is intact, no moth damage. Shows some light soiling from use, has been washed, but still has nice original light OD color. All buttons are present, intact, firmly attached. Zipper is complete, original, no problems.  I absolutely guarantee this is an original US Army M38 jacket, used during WWII. Difficult to find in any condition, this is a nice one with an authentic history of use. These don\'t come along very often, very few were made and most were used up during the war. Existing M41 jackets probably outnumber the M38s by 100 to 1 or more. The private purchase models are quite rare, I\'ve only seen a handful in more than 50 years of collecting WWII items. ********** Buyer pays actual shipping only. I will ship anywhere in the world, if sent overseas customs forms will be completed with actual sales price listed as the value of the item.
