Original Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife

I think the best way todescribe the knife is thatits in a verygood used originalcondition considering it must be in the region of 60 years old.

I have tried to show as much detail in the photos as possible and as you will seethe photoshighlight the markings that only an original FS knife has.

I used to live in Hereford, England, and this is where this knife comes from (not made there obviously, but that\'s a little of the story behind this knife that I know).

As you will probablyknow, there are different patterns and various models depending on where in the world

and which countries commando force they were made for .....this is a very rare model.

This Fairburn SykesKnife is 12.25\" (31.2 cm) overall length

The blade is a fraction over 7\" (18.1 cm)

The handle is just short of 5\" (12.6 cm)

In its scabbard it is 13.5\" (34.5 cm)scabbard

FYI: Copies and fake knives are always considerably shorter than an original Fairbairn Sykes Original Pattern Fighting Knife

I know this as I bought one years ago to practice knife throwing

When I send this to whoever wins this sale I will package it up in strong padded wrapping and will send it by tracked delivery from England.

This FS knife is advertised elsewhere, so Ireserve the right to end the sale earlyif it sells for the price I am looking for

If you offer and win the sale,

please note that I will only accept payment through PAYPAL

Thank you for looking and good luck with your offerding

TheF–S fighting knife was made famous during World War II when issuedto British Commandos, the Airborne Forces, theSASandmany other units,

especially for the Normandy Landings in June 1944.

With its acutely tapered, sharply pointed blade, the F–S fightingknife is frequently described as a stiletto a weapon optimized for thrusting,

althoughthe F-S knife is capable of being used to inflict slash cuts upon anopponent when its cutting edges are sharpened according tospecification.

The Wilkinson SwordCompanymade the knife with minor pommelandgrip design variations.

TheF-S knife is strongly associated with the British commandos and theUS Office of Strategic Services(OSS)

and Marine Raiders(whobased their issuedknifeonthe Fairbairn-Sykes), among other special forces / clandestine /raiding units.

It features in the insignia of the British Royal Marines, the Belgian Commandos, the Dutch Commando Corps,

founded in the UK during World War II, the Australian 1st CommandoRegiment and 2nd Commando Regiment,

and the United States Army Rangers, both founded with the help of the British Commandos.

A solid gold F–Sfighting knife is part of the commandos\' memorial at WestminsterAbbey, London.

Thefirst batch of fifty F–S fighting knives were produced in January1941 by Wilkinson Sword Ltd

after Fairbairn and Sykes had travelleddown to their factory from the Special Training Centreat LochailortScotland, inNovember 1940 to discuss their ideas for a fighting knife.
