Orvis Spin/Fly Graphite Travel/Pack Rod

Here is a vintage Orvis spin/fly fishing rod, made of early unsanded graphite with the butt cap stamped "7' Fly/Spin 2 3/8 oz. (6) 10/84" (made in Oct. 1984). As stated in the advertisement from my 1983 Orvis catalog (see last photo), this rod was developed in response to customers who requested a graphite rod that will present both trout-sized flies (6 weight line) and ultralight spinning lures (rated for 1/16 oz. -3/16 oz. lures), and that will take down to fit in suit cases, canoes, and backpacks. The rod is only 22 1/2" long whentaken down, with a 23" tube. Light and strong at 2 oz. actual weight (see photo of the rod on my accurate digital scale), although marked on the tube and butt cap as weighing 2 3/8 oz. This quality rod sold in outfits with other tackle or by itself for $230 in 1983, which corresponds to $585 in today's dollars! Rod is in excellent, lightly used condition. Ferrules fit together snugly and all the original guides and wraps are tight and intact. Note the 10" long Tennessee style specie cork grip with adjustable sliding bands. Smooth Orvis fullflex action. Comes with original partitioned Orvis bag and Orvis aluminum tube with screw on cap. A fine rod to fish or collect!
