Ottawa Indian Quill Birch Bark Basket Box Native American Basketry As Is 1931
Price: US $37.00
Offered is a Michigan Ottawa Indian Quill Birchbark Basket Box artfully crafted with natural quills. This came from a Museum deaccession sale and retains the coding from their inventory. It was identified as Ottawa and I believe based on the craftsmanship and signature style that it was made by Susan Shagonaby\'s mother or possibly Susan herself. I\'ll include a copy of a letter I have outlining her craft process. It describes that she learned the art from her mother (whose name I don\'t have) in the 1930s.
Her signature style is to use a spruce root rim stitched with linen thread rather than the sweetgrass rim many other quill box makers use. She also most often used natural quills to create her designs. The number of tiny quills used shows the work of a talented quill box maker. It measures 5\" by 2\". You can see that there\'s one area of damage in center of top. Otherwise, it is in very good condition for its age as both quills and birch bark dry out and crack as they age.
I\'m listing several Native American baskets this week as well as other Native American and First Nation beadwork and other items..

I\'mhappy to combine shipping on all collectibles. If the rate is for firstclass, it is possible several items will push your item over 16 oz, so it will have to go priority. I will try to save as much as possible while ensuring your item arrives safely. Sorry, however, that I can\'t combine books or other media items with collectibles due to media mail shipment restrictions.

*International Buyers: I will send this item first class to Canada, but please understand that there is no insurance offered for this option.. You are responsible for any duty charges your country may impose and acknowledge the risk of mailing without insurance.
OurNative American and First Nation items have been collected from variousplaces--sales, estate sales, pow wows and craft stores from our travels. Many of our Quill Boxes come from Manitoulin Island, where we spend part of each summer. We hate to let some of these items go but with our children in college, it\'s time to liquidate some of the collection and share our items with others.

Important Information for all items:
