A pair of rare Britannia Silver Table Peppers, Fully HallmarkedThese peppers are of Britannia Silver and are dated 1914 and are in very good condition, having been made by the famous William ComynsBritannia Silver is an alloy of silver which has a hallmark of 958 which means it is 95.8% pure silver, with the remaining percentage usually being copper. Britannia Silver is an alternative to the usual Sterling Silver. It was introduced around 1690.The maker is William Comyns. He was only 22 years old when he completed his apprenticeship and after much hard work, he raised the money to open up his own business. After collecting all the relevant tools etc he started up in a basement premises in Soho, London. Over the next 50 years he moved only 3 times, always staying local to the West End of London. He enjoyed a lot of success in the 1890\'s along with his 2 sons, Charles and Richard, who also joined his company. They dealt with the likes of Tiffany & Co in New York and Paris and were very well recognised throughout the jewellery world, and even supplied items to the Royal Family. They were specialists in Silver pieces, which pieces are still highly sought after today.The peppers are engraved on the side with the wording \"Nil Sine Labore\" which is Latin and means \"Nothing Without Work/Labour.The peppers weigh approximately 220 grams and are 3\" (7.7cm) Height and 2\" width base (5cm)They are generally in very good condition, however there are some surface scratches on both, and one does have a small dent around one of the lids, please see my photographs, if you require any further information please contact meI have many other interesting items for sale so please take a lookIf you have any questions please contact me and I will reply as soon as I canHappy offerding !
