A Rare Paul H. Young Co. Split Bamboo Fly Rod. “Driggs” Model. “Driggs” is for the Driggs River. Parrabolic taper. The cane has a beautiful rich caramel flame color.
3.15oz. in weight. Made for Emily Ann Craig.7’ 2” inlength. Thelength when puttogether is 86” which equals 7’ 2". 2 sections + extra tip. Matching serial numbers. Nothing is broken.
TheNickel Silver female ferrule is stamped“Super”. They fit together perfectly and aretight on the rod sections. There are no breaks in the ferrules. The oldvarnish has aged in a way that shows some lines anddifferent tones on the ferrules. The ferrules are perfect and make a nice pop whenseparated.
Serial number 4181. Probably made in the early 1960’s. This will throw a 5 weight line. Paul Young built fly rods in Detroit MI.Original varnish overall and is very glossy. Some of the lettering is light where thevarnish is off. Also a few light chips overall in the varnish mostly on the butt section. All the wrapps have a new light coat of varnish. It is very common for thevarnish to lift up some on the wraps of these rods. One guide foot and the two tiptops have beenrewrapped. They match perfectly.
The rod butt is stamped Paul H Young Co Detroit Mich. Original satin bag with a couple holes at the top and original tube.This is a used vintage bamboo fly rod in overall excellent condition. The Driggs model is very rare and hard to find.
