Price: US $220.50
PORT ROYAL, JAMAICA LATE 100’S - EARLY 1700’S “PIECE OF EIGHT” RECOVERED FROM TAVERN/BROTHEL DEBRIS A signed C.O.A. accompanies this authentic silver 4 reales artifact that reflects the turbulent times of the buccaneers, pirates, and English seamen that used Port Royal as a base/home in what was known as the most wicked and richest city in the world, where one of every four buildings was either a tavern or brothel. Port Royal was also the home to such notables as Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica Sir Henry Morgan; Rear Admiral John Benbow and in the early 1800’s Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. The city experienced a devastating earthquake accompanied by three tidal waves that sank/destroying approximately 1/3rd of the buildings and forts except for Fort Charles. This tavern/brothel site debris was near “High Street” and probably escaped the tidal waves but was demolished by the earthquake and no doubt later rebuilt on the same site. Please ask all questions prior to offerding as winning offer is a final sale and if in doubt please do not offer.
