Both sidesof blade ricasso have sharp clear Japanese kanji character markings, datedMeiji 19 on the right side for 1886. Sword has serial number 2120 on the rightside of the guard. This exact sword is shown on page 92 of Jim Dawson’s swordbook and list by serial number. 21 ¼” blade has original bright finish withsome gray areas of pitting. Has been sharpened, edge has a few nicks and dings.Brass grip has beautiful patina and some normal handling marks and dings.Fitted in correct original nonmatching numbered leather scabbard that has steelthroat and tip. Leather shows some normal wear, stitching is nice and tight.Tip staple is tight. The throat, however, will pull away from the body of thescabbard. Bayonet is also complete with correct original leather frog. Leatheris soft and supple with some normal wear, stitching is nice and tight. Completewith strap and buckle. Frog is marked “AUG 2 1864”.
