Description: This pretty antique Nippon Salt and Pepper is full of Moriage and features hand painted purple flowers in the background and Moriage white flowers.Now, a word about Moriage: Moriage is liquid clay slip decoration, applied much like you would decorate a cake. As a matter of fact, Moriage has the appearance of dried cake frosting.This plaque is the real deal, and not made of raised enamel paint, which is so often called moriage by sellers who don\'t really know Nippon. Moriage was labor intense, done by hand, requiring skilled workmanship. Consequently, this technique was seldom used after the Nippon era.Size: 3 inches tall.Condition: Outstanding; remember, this plaque is over 100 years old. My pictures are an accurate representation of this piece, so please take a close look. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs.
Mark/Backstamp:The set is unmarked, but I guarantee it to be Nippon, perhaps made before 1891.
