Railroad Lantern CH&D RR Ry MM Buck Bellbottom Cast B&O Globe Frame 2X Marked
Price: US $410.00

Thisis a very nice tall twist-off-base bellbottom railroad lantern that is marked"MM Buck & Co. St. Louis" on the steel top. The frame is double-marked "CH&DRR" for the Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Dayton Railroad. This road existed from 1846 to 1917. The globe is a fantastic crystal clear castextended base beauty that was made by Macbeth Pearl Glass. The letters are embossed "B&ORR" for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. The extended base measures a full half-inch and fits the frame like a glove. No cracks in the globe. The CH&D was eventually acquired by theB&O so the globe is not really a reach for this frame. The bottom center of the base has a very nicerepair where a hole had been drilled, probably for electrification. The brass burner was missing, but I replacedit with the proper, old original type. There is still a length of old wick attached. This is a very fine old lantern with allsolid metal intact. Buyer paysshipping. Thanks for looking! Below is some info on the CH&D:

The Cincinnati, Hamiltonand Dayton Railroad (CH&D) was a railroad basedin the U.S. state of Ohiothat existed between its incorporation on March 2, 1846, and its acquisition bythe Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in December1917. It was originally chartered to build from Cincinnatito Hamilton,Ohio, and then to Dayton, a distance of 59mi (95km); furtherconstruction and acquisition extended the railroad, and by 1902 it owned orcontrolled 640mi (1,030km) of railroad.
