RARE "Novagem" from the Tower of Jewels at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition / World's Fair in San Francisco, California.
Emerald green / olivine color glass "jewel" measures 47mm (1-7/8") in diameter and is 3" in height, including hanger, and 1-1/4" deep. with mirror bracket. This was one of the 102,000 multi-color Novagems suspended from the Tower of Jewels during the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair. Loop-attached circular brass tag measures 28mm in diameter and pictures the Tower of Jewels on the face. Reverse side of tag reads: "From the Tower of Jewels - P.P.I.E. - San Francisco 1915 - Novagem - Certified - W. D'Arcy Ryan - Chief of Illumination". Very minor flea-bite at 1 o'clock position on top edge of Novagem (see last photo), otherwise no other chips or cracks. Top of brass hanger reads: "Patents Pending". Brass bracket at rear contains mirror which reflects the facets of the Novagem in the sun.The majority of green Novagems were suspended from the globe located at the very top of the tower and this is most likely one of them.Very rare to find a Novagem from the Tower of Jewels which does not have a majority of chips or dings, or with the reflector mirror intact. This one is in near-mint condition!
