I am listing four wonderful early American teddies at sale today. They are all being offered starting at $1 with . This sale is for Horace. Horace is a 13” very rare early American Ideal teddy bear! One of the earliest Ideals made–dating to circa 1905. This wonderful character has the most appealing primitive features including a long downward-sloped snout, high shoulders with the top of his arms starting low on his body, and he has very long arms!Horace has had 110 years of love so he’s lost a good deal of his mohair, but he’s still so darn adorable! The photos describe him best and you’ll see how his mohair is thinning/balding in places. He has retained most of it on his back and legs. Horace has large shoe button eyes and a brown stitched nose and mouth. I’m not sure if they have been replaced or are original so I don’t want to say either way. He is five-way jointed, his fabric is strong with no holes or odors...just a few stains on him. His four pads are replacements. He has an old stitched repair on his left ankle and his right ear has stitches at the seam. Other than these minor issues, I’d say Horace is in decent condition for his old age. Horace is wearing a genuine antique Steiff sweater. It’s a rare color combination of blue and cream. It fits over his odd-shaped body nicely and looks handsome on him, so he’ll come to his new home wearing it. Don’t miss adding this rare and unique teddy to your antique bear collection!
