Up for sale is a VERY RARENippon vase with heavy moriage decoration. The moriage was skillfullyapplied in the shape of chrysanthemum flowers and leaves. The clay slip (liquefied clay) used to make the raised decoration was applied using an "icchin", a ball syringe with a nozzle,similar to what a cake decorator would use today. These finely decorated heavy moriage pieces are among the most popular with serious Nippon collectors.The vase stands about 10 5/8" tall and measures approximately 4 1/2" wide at the handles. The porcelain is hand painted withdark pinkchrysanthemums and yellow roses against a mostly yellow andgreen background. The vase is tapered and has 2 small handles on top. Thetop rim, base rim, and handles are decorated with raised beads. The underside of the base is marked with a bluish-green #52 Maple Leaf Nippon mark that dates back to 1891.Although many moriage decorated pieces areillustratedin "Van Patten's ABC's of Collecting Nippon Porcelain" book by Joan Van Patten, this particular vase is not pictured. I did find record of an identical vase that was sold on in 2015 for $1,850. I purchased this vase at a recent estate sale that had many fine Nippon items from a serious collector. It'sguaranteed to be an antiqueNippon piece and NOT a modern reproduction. Please check my positive response if you have any reservations about this purchase andoffer with confidence from a trusted seller.Condition of this collectible moriage decorated vaseis EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The moriage is in great condition and all the raised beads appear to be intact.The painted flowers look very nice with no significant scratches.Overall, spectacular vaselooks fantastic and was obviously well cared for.
