Up for sale is arare, working, animated musical chalet cuckoo clock that was createdover30years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, \"West Germany\" by \"Emil Schmeckenbecher,\" one of the finest clockmakers in history! The clock is in overall excellent condition inside and out.The clock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes to allow access to the weight driven mechanical movement inside the case bearing Schmeckenbecher\'s name and the name \"Regula.\" A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, cuckoo, and music/animation activity. Regula makes the best clock movements which is why Emil used them in all of his clocks. The bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look good as well; sound good too! This clock makes extraordinary sounds! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound before retreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to the safe confines of the inner clock...now the fun and magic begins! Once the bird has completed his rounds, the trumpeter raises his instrument and the dance couples begin to spin around as if dancing while a Swiss made, mechanical music box inside the case playsmusic. The trumpeter lowers his horn and the dancers stop once the song has ended; fascinating and mesmerizing to watch! The song title is etched into the back above the wooden door.The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, chimes correctly, cuckoos and animates as it should, and the music is beautiful! I bought this clock at an sale, so I have no idea the last time it was serviced, so some adjustments or service may be necessary after the journey to its new home.I recommendthat antique or vintage clocks be servicesat least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong for even more years to come.Thisis a very impressive vintage clock and equally so in size measuring about 14\" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), 7\" deep, and about 12 1/2\" or so across the top.
