This sale is fora rare futuristic space vehicle that is a battery operated tin lithographedArea Radiation Tester made exclusively for Sears Roebuck and Co. U.S.A.Simpsons-Sears LTD & Robert Simpson C. LTD Canada in Japan. This spacevehicle is an impressive size and operation – with “caution” orange tin lithographing,marked “UNIT 5” rear jet engines, tin doors open to allow the scope to raiseand search for radiation, smoke raises from rear compartment when doors openand scope is raised, forward motion with flashing red and green lights, spacepilot in space suit at the helm with original cockpit dome, original “bullseye” style hood emblem, 7 ½” near perfectreplacement antenna protruding from the top, original chrome front bumper, oxidationto the battery door on bottom and one side, rubs on doors that allow radiationtester probe to take samples from the air, original wheels, bottom prettyclean, very sleek design.
This space toy wastested on 4-15-2014 and WORKS– When turned on the vehicle runs for about 20 seconds then the rear hatchdoors open and the scope comes out (6 ½” from ground to top of scope whenextended – more or less) the scope raises and then goes up and down slightlyfrom about 15 seconds the retracts as doors close and if runs around! The red and green light blink on and off –and this beast has tons of smoke that just pours out and adds mystery andkiller fun for any collector!
The original boxfor this toy with insert is very difficult to find and has nice colors withkiller graphics of the space craft on a lunar surface doing its thing! Box has patina, rubbing to edges, tears asshown, and 9 repairs, small section missing on corner side edge – topleft. Overall it is good for display –please see photos and ask questions.
