RARE MANCHUKUO GRAND ORDER OF THE ORCHID BLOSSOM GRAND CORDON BREAST STAR MEDALA WWII ERA MEDAL OF THE UTMOST RARITY - OSAKA MINT MARK RARE MANCHUKUO GRAND ORDER OF THE ORCHID BLOSSOM GRAND CORDON BREAST STAR MEDALA WWII ERA MEDAL OF THE UTMOST RARITY - OSAKA MINT MARKDESCRIPTION
This week I am taking a bit of a departure from my regular jewelry listings to offer four extremely rare Japanese medals. These medals date somewhere just before to during World War II and were(are) some of the highest awards presented by the Japanese and Manchukuo empires. All information provided in this sale was obtained from James W. Peterson\'s book ORDERS AND MEDALS OF JAPAN AND ASSOCIATED STATES. Please feel free to email me with any questions regarding these amazing pieces of militaria. Up for sale is an extremely rare and quite extraordinary breast star medal. This medal is part of the Grand Cordon of the Grand Order of the Orchid Blossom which was the highest award bestowed by the Manchukuo empire. As the empire was only in existence for a little ever a decade, I believe this medal to be of the utmost rarity. The star is made of gold plated silver set with faux pearls and accented with green, yellow, and white enamel. It was designed by Professor Hata Shokichi and produced by the Osaka Mint in Japan(the piece bears the mintmark M on the underside of the central pin stem). It also has characters impressed on the underside that translate to \"GRAND MERIT DECORATION\". The star measures approx 90mm(3.5 inches) in diameter and weighs approx 157 grams. The piece does have a few condition issues: there is fracturing to the enamel in one area(see photo #7), and one missing pearl(this would be fairly easy to replace, but I will leave that to the buyer). For reference I have provided a recent sale estimate and sale for one of these stars. It can be seen by clicking The accompanying sash badge can be found in a separate sale. Again, please feel free to email me with any and all questions. SHIPPING
