This is an original 1936 Daisy XZ-38 Disintegrator. The gun was originally offered in 2 finishes, nickel and copper. The copper was overwhelmingly preferred by depression era kids; so Daisy discontinued the nickel run early in production and they are very rare. The last 2 that I owned, I sold on . You can verify this in my response from 3/12/14 and 10/19/12.
This gun is a factory issued oddity. It is half copper plate and half nickel plate. I bought it at an estate sale in Indiana from the original owner\'s son. I spoke with the son and he said that his dad received it for Christmas when he was young from an uncle that worked at Daisy in Michigan. The uncle was a supervisor, middle management employee and had the gun assembled on the line that way as a special gift for his nephew.
This toy gun is fully functioning. It pops loud and flashes very well. It will be obvious to any collector that it has not been tampered with or altered. The tabs are factory tight. The finish is consistent and can be seen in every opening to be true. It has normal wear on the raised areas and minor tiny blemishes. The finish is very good to excellent. The barrel end piece has a small spot of oxidation but no existing rust. The blued fins are nice. The flint screw is a replacement.
