This sale is fora LARGE 11 ¾” tall, 1950’s tinbattery operated skirted body Chief Smoky advanced robotman Robot made by Yoshiya(KO), Japan. This tin robot has greatlithographing with plenty of chrome, clicking sounds, puffs of smoke andmovement! The chest has a tin plate withlithographed lite bulbs, wires, tubes and more – rivets on skirt and very cleanbattery compartment. There are some rubsin litho as shown from age and play – head has a small hairlines from corner ofears to side of where his eyes are, original pipes from hat and rubber top onhat where the smoke flows from – the body has light oxidation hard to see throughoutsilver body, oxidation top of hat, - wonderfultin space toy!
For children thisrobot must have been one of the best and why.... the robot smokes :) ThisYoshiya Chief Smoky was made in Japan in the late 1950`s to the early 1960`sand was made in 2 variations that only differ in the name; one is called ChiefSmoky like this one and the other is called Mr. Smoky. In action the robotmoves around with mystery bump and go action, typical KO clicking sound, lightin his head flashes and smoke is coming out of his head. This is a great andlegendary robot for sure as this robot does not show up very often!!!
Therobot first appears specifically with the Mr. Chief nameplate version in the1963 Simpsons-Sears Christmas catalog. Based on the Chief Robot Man pressing,though the belly button is a lithographed circle instead of a plastic part, thearms are metal. The name confusionarises because the box calls him Chief Smoky and the art work depicts the robotwith that name on his chest plate. The actual robot can have either Chief Smokyor Mr. Chief wording. To make things more confusing, the box gives him theextra title of Advanced Robotman.
When activated thisrobot WORKS and was tested,robot moves with mystery action while puffs of smoke come off of hat – light inhead makes robot appear to be a realistic companion for space travel.
The box for this spacerobot is a perfect reproduction with killer graphics of the Chief Smoky Robotin action. The box reads; “AdvancedRobotman” “Chief Smoky”, “Puffing Steamlike Smoke”, “Lited See Through Action”.
This space robot isa great addition to any collection, a must have.
