Tinplate Airship

This charming "Gunthermann" "Los Angeles" airship is in "as found" condition and has not been repaired or restored by us.

The Gunterhmann toy company was founded in 1826 in Nurenberg Germany. In its time, it was one of the most respected and long established toy manufacturers.The company crafted beautifully-designed toys, and would use new manufacturing processes as they began to appear (e.g. lithographed colour on tin) for their toys.When the car and aeroplane arrived on the scene, Gunthermann began to produce these toys in very accurate detail with mechanical clockwork driven mechanisms.

The airship has some small patches of paint loss, particularly mainly to the tail and the fixed key. It also has the usual scuffs, marks and scratches that you would expect from a played with item of this age.
There are a few small dents too.
All of the cabins underneath the airship appear to be present and what I believe is the original cardboard propeller is also intact, although this does have some creases.
The lithographed paint work has retained a good colour and the lettering and detailing are still clear and legible. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.

One side of the airship has "SG Germany".

The clockwork mechanism feels good and tight when wound and it rotates the propeller at a good speed.

This is a rare and wonderful tinplate toy that would grace any collection.

The airship measures 24 cm (9 1/2 inches) long.
