Very rare original World War I Star Relief poster by Fortunino Matania, circa 1918, \"HELP THE HORSE SAVE THE SOLDIER!\", no printer noted but probably W. F. Powers Litho. Co., NY, stone lithograph on paper, unbacked, 19.5\" x 29.50\" (size is given in inches, usually to the nearest half inch, width precedes height;), \"A\" condition, excellent image and retained original colors; as is common with old posters there are edge tears and evidence of fold lines - (for an additional fee of $160 I will professionally restore and linen back this poster which will greatly increase its value); even in its current condition, whether you are a fastidious collector or just someone who will frame this for a den or office, you will not be disappointed; this is a very scarce example of a World War I American Star Relief poster. We sell only original posters, no reproductions and all sales are satisfaction guaranteed or return the poster, less shipping cost of course.Posters during World War I were designed to instill in the people a positive outlook, a sense of patriotism and confidence. They linked the war in trenches with the war at home. From a practical point, they were used to encourage all Americans to help with the war effort. The posters called upon every man, woman, and child to endure the personal sacrifice and domestic adjustments to further the national agenda. They encouraged rationing, conservation and sacrifice. In addition, the posters were used for recruitment, productivity, and motivation as well as for financing the war effort. The stark, colorful graphic designs elicited strong emotions. The posters played to the fears, frustrations, and faith in freedoms that lingered in people\'s minds during the war.We ship posters rolled in a Uline tube via priority USPS mail, seller provides insurance; in the unlikely event your poster arrives damaged, contact me first and I\'ll provide details for its return with the original packaging for a complete refund of your purchase price as well as your shipping cost.

The border edge of this poster which was white may have been trimmed from this poster but it was exclusive of the image area; the measurement I provided as well as the overall condition of the poster in my description are quite accurate (see pictures). A very nice specimen of a very rare WWI poster!
