RARE PHILADELPHIA MERCHANTS EXCHANGE ATKINS & PORTER WEIGHT CLOCK WORKING
Price: US $208.50

The clock is in excellent condition throughout. It runs perfectly and strong. Both the top and bottom glass is original for the period poured glass and show the air bubbles and uneven surface. The top has a hairline crack in it but is stable. I purchased the clock 35 years ago with the crack and never felt the need to replace it. The label, as you can see, is legible but has stains anda fewmissing pieces. The veneer is near perfect. The brass weight driven 30-hour movement in this clockhas been cleaned, runs strong and keeps good time. Thereverse paintedglassis original to the case as is the painted zinc dial with colorful floral accents. The clock measures24 X 14 X 4. I consider this a transition clock from the popular OGEE\'s of the 1830\'s to the ornate pillar clocks of the 1860\'s.

Merritt Atkins and Henry H. Porter partnered making clocks in Bristol, Connecticut from 1840 until 1846. They wererenowned for their high-quality brass movements with a full strike on the hours and one strike at the half-hour.
