RARE

Pre Columbian Tuzigoot Red Almeda Brown Ware

Over the last few weeks, I have had to opportunity to purchase numerous artifacts from the estate of a world traveler and collector. I have already sold many of the items on and the buyers were thrilled with every item from this collection. Today I will be listing the rest of the collection. These are all one of a kind pieces, extremely rare and took more than 60 years to collect. Shipping will be slightly higher on these pieces as they need additional packing in order to have a safe journey.

The Sinagua are probably most closely affiliated with the modern Hopi, though multiple tribes, including the Zuni, also believe that the Sinagua were ancestral – the Hisatsinom, or “people of long ago.” The Sinagua were a resilient, resourceful, and culturally diverse people who inhabited the forests, canyons, grasslands, and deserts of central and northern Arizona from about A.D. 600 through A.D. 1450. The Sinagua created a unique cultural pattern during the more than eight centuries of their existence, adapting in particular to the eruption of the Sunset Crater volcano around A.D. 1064.

This jar is a fine example of this time period, called a Tuzigoot Red it is part of the Alameda Brown Ware. It is made of medium fine quartz or feldspar sands andopaque angular fragments. They havehave conspicuous anvil and scraping marks. They also have oxidizing marks from firing. This jar has a exterior crack on one side that starts at the top, goes to the middle and then to the left, about 3 inches. Despite it\'s age it is still strong but these jars were never made very thick. these are very rare to find in this conditiono and most often are missing many pieces. This piece was cared for in a museum setting.
