For sale a rare Sonora Chime Clock Company 8 bell mantel clock, predecessor of the Seth Thomas Sonora Chime clock line. Seth Thomas bought out this company in about 1912 to start their own line of the now famous Sonora Chime clocks. They made some changes to the movements, simpler operations. Following is information about this clock. First the case. In very nice original condition, original finish with just a few nicks, nothing serious. Patina is great with wonderful inlay. The silvered dial is original, shows typical wear from an older clock. The hands may or may not be original, still looks good. Has the original large winding key for the chime movement. Has the Chime/Silent lever on the side. Now the movement. Original top time/hour strike movement, stamped Sonora Chime Clock Company. I have not tried to run the top movement, everything is there, could probably use a clean. The massive lower movement is original. I did not try to wind it up all the way, just a few clicks, has plenty of strength. My clockmaker had this clock for a long time, he said he cleaned the bottom movement but I cannot guarantee this but does have new screws on the bottom of the case that hold the chime movement in place so he probably did and lost the original screws. Now what is wrong with the clock. The actuating lever/levers are missing. These are the levers that connect the top movement to the bottom movement. This is probably a German Black Forest type affair but am unsure, I will include some old posts that may help with this. For those who collect Seth Thomas Sonora Chime clocks this would be the Holy Grail. Not many around and certainly not in this original condition. This is a heavy clock clock weighing in at 23 lbs. The clock stands 16 1/2\" high, 11\" wide and 9\" deep. With a little ingenuity and effort this could be your best Seth Sonora chime clock. .
