For your all-year-long Hallowe\'en loving pleasure, we are HAUNTINGly happy topresent a rare vintage Hallowe\'en crepe paper, wooden and diecut paper fan fromthe early part of the last century. This is a folding party fan that features ascary (or scared) black cat with golden yellow eyes. This very unusual piece of Hallowe\'en history was made in Germany and is markedas such. Itwas sold in the United States by John Wanamaker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.Both the Made in Germany label and the John Wanamaker label are present and appearon the back of the cat diecut. Please see photos. This is an ornate piece. The black crepe paper has heavy festooning and thecolors for this fan are SPOOKtacular! The wooden slats or frame of the fan arein orange. This hard-to-find piece of ephemera was probably used for decorationor as a party favor or game prize at one of those great Hallowe\'en partiesduring the Flapper Days of the Roarin’ 1920s, or slightly before. It could havealso been used as a costume accessory by a guest at one of the parties. When fully extended this fan measures 12” at the widest point. The exact condition is as follows: the fan itself is in remarkable conditionfor its elderly age and fragile nature. It folds down perfectly as it should,and the crepe paper shows no signs of fading or repairs. The wooden frame issolid and without breaks and the golden rivet that holds it together has NO wear andis tightand secure. The kitty cat diecut has a crease at one ear and the very tip ofthe other ear is slightly bent. At that ear there is also a short tear at theborder. The kitty most likely had a tail at one time but this fan looksamazing just as it is. How MAGICally magnificent this rare and desirable fan would look in ashadow-box frame surrounded by other pieces of meaningful holiday ephemera! Thisis a very difficult piece to find – particularly in this amazing condition.
