Rare WW1 Military British Officers Trench Periscope - World War One
Price: GB $192.72
This is for an increasingly sought after Great War British Trench Periscope, used by the British and their allies and one of the symbolic tools of the trenches in the First World War. Periscopes became an invaluable tool to monitor enemy movements from the trenches and to direct fire & field artillery and monitor its effect on the enemy without getting shot by the ever present snipers. This is solidly made of brass with its original removable wooden handle, held in place by a single brass screw. The broad arrow war department mark (crows foot) is etched into the periscope along with its maker R&J Beck and dated 1917.In very good solid working condition commensurate with age and use, although as to be expected for an item that has without question seen plenty of active military service in trench conditions it has lost some paint and has odd knocks from use. This is all part of the charm and history of such an item. It does retain some of its olive military paint. The lenses and internal mirrors are all intact, fairly clear and still focus perfectly but as you would expect from operating in such a muddy environment they could be improved further by cleaning. I\'ve done my best to capture images through the lens with a camera.Overall an opportunity to own a rare military piece that\'s \"been there\" and played its part in the trenches. There\'s no question this item has seen active service and one can only wonder of what was seen through its lens. A nice display piece and talking point for anyone interested in the first world war.
