DESCRIPTION: Operating a large tanker division, this photo reproduction is of a Denver-Chicago early 1960s KENWORTH K-100 COE that had replaced the “Bullnose” COE in 1957. The “K” in the new model stood for “Kent”, one of the 2 original partners, Harry Kent and Edgar Worthington. This K-100 tandem tanker is pulling a long-tongue western-style tank trailer. This photo has a white border on all 4 sides.
HISTORY OF DC/DENVER-CHICAGO TRUCKING CO. INC.: Founded in 1930 with original authority between Denver, CO, and Chicago, IL, DC Trucking would grow to become the first coast-to-coast carrier in the nation. Real growth started in 1939 with the purchase of Denver-Los Angeles Trucking which added routes to Los Angeles, San Diego, and Arizona. From their original 1931 A-5 International, the DC road fleet would grow to over 3,000 units wearing their once familiar DC green and yellow colors. By 1966 DC became on of the top 8 trucking companies in the U.S., with over 3,500 employees. In 1973 DC, along with LASME of Seattle, became part of the TIME System of Lubbock, TX. This trucking giant would operate for 10 more years before deregulation, increased costs, and fierce competition would force T.I.M.E.-DC out of business ... another of the once proudest common carriers from the “Golden Years of Trucking” gone from the highways, but not from our memories.
