Up for offer is this extremely rare brass top bellbottom Railroad lantern from the Richmond & Danville Railroad. Very nicely marked R&D RR on the lid. Made by the RR Signal Lamp & Lantern Co. and marked as such on the brass top. The lantern has one small pinhole in the lid. Lantern has been stripped of several coats of paint and cleaned using the lye bucket method, so this pinhole will not grow any larger than it already is. It has the correct ring with bayonet base, but is missing the bell, with pot & burner. The ring will need soldered to the bell, pot & burner assembly. The ring is larger than standard RR S. L&L bell bottom drop pots. The brass latch on the ring needs a dab of solder on it also.
The seam on the base needs a little solder too. See pics. All of this is very do-able. It\'s all good metal and solid. The hard part is finding the proper bell, pot, and burner, which should be standard RR S. L & L stuff. Lantern has a nice 6 inch, unmarked extended base globe with no cracks. The reserve is kind of high, I\'m just experimenting, and if it hits my price, I\'ll let it go now. Otherwise, I\'ll do the project myself and sell at a later date. I work crazy schedules and it sometimes may take several days to get it in the mail to the successful buyer. Please be understanding of this. Please don\'t use pay pal on this.
