Robert Sorby London Pattern Sash Mortise Chisels, Set of 4 - No Reserve
Price: US $130.91

This listing is for a set of 4 Robert Sorby London Pattern Sash Mortising Chisels. These chisels are designed for furniture making use, and although they may use given light mallet blows they are not designed for timber framing applications where the chisel should be hoop bound. I bought them several years ago at an estate sale -- they still had the original packaging. I have honed them, but never have used them.

The chisels have bolster and tang construction with boxwood handles. There are leather shock washers between the bolsters and the handles. The handleshave brass ferrules. The handles are of the same general shape, but are not of uniform length or roundness. One is a little out of round, but this would not affect its use. They were probably made at different times. There are 4 chisels in the set: 3/8\", 5/16\", 1/4\", and 1/8\". The chisels are approximately 11-1/2\" in length. The chisels have a slight relief angle ground on the sides, two degrees on each side I believe, to prevent the chisel frombinding in a mortise.

If you purchase more than one item from me, I will combine shipping if I am able to do so. I will send you an invoice which will combine the cost of the items and specify the cost of shipping for your combined items.

I love old hand tools and began to collect them at some point in time. My tools have always been kept in a heated and dry shop. All tools were cleaned and restored to working condition when I acquired them. Blades were properly ground and sharpened, and in most cases the backs have been lapped perfectly flat and sharpened to a mirror finish.
