*Scarce 1890-1898 JOHN LANDMAN \"The V.L.&A.\" 6\', 3/2 Split Bamboo Bait TRADE Rod
Price: US $233.50
It\'s my pleasure to offer at sale a Very Nice and rather Scarce 1890-1898 JOHN LANDMAN \"THE V.L.&A.\" 6 FT., 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT *TRADE* ROD BUILT FOR von LENGERKE & ANTOINE SPORTING GOODS, WITH ORIGINAL COVERED WOOD FORM HOLDER AND BAG. Examples from this influentialBrooklyn rod maker don\'t show up for sale every day, especially in this nice of condition. Landman produced rods during the last part of the 19th century, with much of his production supplied to von Lengerke & Antoine Co. of Chicago (VL&A). Many of these *trade* rods, as well as identical models that were stamped with his ownname, are considered to be some of the most beautiful to enter the market. According to A.J. Campbell\'s awesome reference \"\"CLASSIC & ANTIQUE FLY-FISHING TACKLE\", Landman purchased blanks from Thomas Chubb or Thomas, Edwards & Payne or even later from Thomas & Edwards. The butt cap is stamped \" \'THE V.L.&A.\' von LENGERKE & ANTOINE - CHICAGO\". Built with beautiful flamed Calcutta cane, with all the nickel silver hardware\"seamed and soldered\" and the ferrules with \"copper-bottomed\" waterproofing, all Landman trademarks. Comes equipped with extra tip section, genuine agate first guide, stirrup-style agate tip tops, bell guides, welted & serrated ferrules, n/s sliding band reel seat & butt cap, solid cork grip of 1/4\" rings and closely wound in red silk tipped in black. There are no less than 138 individual wraps, with the tip sections\"double-wrapped\" at the ferrules and tip tops (another Landman feature). Rod is in solid Fine to Very Fine condition, showing only light wear for these. With new wraps and varnish, done entirely to original, it\'s also stream-ready. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are arrow-straight. Varnish and windings are pristine, as one would expect. All guides, tip tops, ferrules and butt cap are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly. Solid cork grip is extra nice. Put up in the original felt-covered wood form holder, also in Fine condition. It has lost most of it\'s leather cap along the way, but remains solid and complete otherwise. All of this goes into the original canvas bag, which is solid and complete. A very nice and scarce 19th century package from this Brooklyn maker and one that would be tough to ever upgrade. To be sold with a very low starting offer and . Buyer to pay $17.00 shipping via U.S. Priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking. Payment must be received within 7 days of sale closure. Thanks for your time and good luck.
