You are offerding on a Thomas Mercer, SIDEREAL, Observatory Chronometer. This piece runs and keeps perfect time, (pay attention now), no matter how many times you wind it, it runs for 4 1/2 hours and then abruptly stops. I \"THINK\" that it has been set to do that for a specific observatory function; however, I do not know that for sure. All I know is that it has been wound 6 times, and every time it stops abruptly at approximately 4 1/2 hours. During this 4 1/2 hours it runs perfectly, never stops, runs very strong. ***So, again, understand that you are buying it in this condition and subsequently do not become an idiot and try to return it because it does not run a full 56 hour cycle*** The markings all match e.g. the brass tag, face, and two places on the movement all have the same serial number. The tag reads \"Royal Observatory Greenwich, theserial number, SIDEREAL\". The face is marked \"Thomas Mercer Ltd, SIDEREAL, 1 SEC, ST. ALBANS ENGLAND, B.C.\". You are purchasing this AS IS, WHERE IS. The movement will be corked by \"my clock guy\" (who by the way is trying to get me to sell it to him). It is my layman\'s understanding that Observatories had small banks of these, and that they were used to control telescope movements.
