A wonderful Southern Folk Pottery Face Jug, Bobby Ferguson (American, 1933-2005), Hall County, North Georgia, 20thC. Bobby was a 5th generation potter and direct descendant of Edgefield-trained Charles H. Ferguson. See Internet for further biographical information on the artisan.

Description: Traditional form with highly-exaggerated facial features, tooled spout and signature applied looping side handle. Heavy incised accents on the beard, nose, eyes and brows; white-glazed pottery teeth. Additional incised banding about the upper shoulder. Decorated with an attractive, semi-transparent Mossy Green (Alkaline) Glaze that allows the Georgia Clay to show through. Hand-inscribed on base: Bobby Ferguson / Gillsville Ga. This Face Jug is undated but appears to be one of Ferguson's earlier examples.

Condition: Excellent, as-made condition with no chips, cracks or repaired damage. Inherent glaze and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.
