For all other countries (UK, Europe, Australia, etc):The Silhouette will not include the correct power supplycord. It is packaged only with the standard two prong US plug (type A) power cord. However, the power currency converter will be included andnopower converters are necessary. · materials can the Silhouette cut?
The Silhouette is designed to cut film materials (such as vinyl), paper and cardstock materials (up to 90 lb weight). It has a cutting force of 210gf. The Cameo includes a blade that will be able to extend to approximately 1 mm in depth to accommodate thicker media types. However, there is still a limitation depending on the media type\'s density and make up. Certain materials that are overly dense, such as thin metals, for example, would not be able to be cut and would impair the blade. Certain materials that have abrasive natures, such as chipboard or sandpaper would also impair the blade or dull it very quickly. On the other side of the spectrum, certain fibrous materials may not be able to be held together densely enough to be successfully cut by a blade-driven cutting device, such as felt or handmade paper. So while the Cameo is able to handle thicker materials, there are still limitations depending on the material’s density and/or nature.The Silhouette will cut patterned paper, most cardstock, vellum, iron-on heat transfer material, vinyl, overhead transparency film, fabric (when using our Interfacing products) and sticker paper among other materials. Individual results may vary. Again, please note, that certain materials that are more dense (such as shrink plastic, foam, chipboard, leather) or overly fibrous in nature (such as felt) cannot be cut by the Silhouette, even if they fit within the thickness range noted above.
How long should a Silhouette blade typically last?
The blades for the Silhouette should typically last up to 6 months depending on usage and the type of material being cut. Please note that thicker materials will wear down the blade more quickly and the average life for heavy users will be closer to 2 - 4 months. The thickest material the Silhouette will cut well would be 80 - 90 lb weight cardstock, such as Bazzill cardstock. Attempts to cut thicker materials or certain materials the Silhouette is not designed to cut that are more dense (such as shrink plastic, foam, chipboard) may ruin the blade or result in the blade dulling very quickly. Additionally, certain papers with bits or particles of foreign objects (such as glitter chunks), may immediately impair the blade. We strongly recommend against cutting materials with additional foreign objects embedded into them which may harm the blade.
What file types can the Silhouette cut?
The Silhouette Studio® software included with the Silhouette can cut Silhouette Digital Download files (obtained from the Silhouette Online Store), fonts installed on your computer that can otherwise be seen in word processing programs (such as TTF and OTF files), STUDIO files, GSD/GST files, and DXF files. The software can additionally import a variety of other common image file types (JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and TIF files) and then Trace the image using an auto-trace function to create cut lines. Please note, however, that Silhouette cannot guarantee the quality of results of images not created or offered from Silhouette.
If you wish to use Adobe Illustrator®, CorelDraw®, or other vector imaging programs with the Silhouette Studio® program, you may consider upgrading to the Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition. This version provides the additional ability to import SVG files directly which you may have created in another vector imaging program (such as Adobe Illustrator® or CorelDraw®). The upgraded Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition also allows you to import PDF files, which can be auto-traced to create cut lines as noted above.
Alternately, if you do not wish to go through the Silhouette Studio® program, an alternate plug-in called Silhouette Connect™ allows users to send jobs directly from Adobe Illustrator® or CorelDraw® to the Silhouette.
In addition to being able to open the above noted file types, you may also draw your own images from scratch with friendly drawing tools found within the Silhouette Studio® software program.
What fonts can the Silhouette cut?
The Silhouette can cut true type fonts (TTF) installed on your computer. You do not need to download these into the Silhouette software. True Type fonts installed on your computer in your Windows \"Font\" directory will show up as an available option for cutting letters once the Silhouette software is opened. Please note that some fonts may not be designed for optimal cutting, so Silhouette cannot guarantee that every true type font will cut well with the Silhouette.
